Dr Spector has treated obesity for over 25 years.

He has expert knowledge of medications available for the treatment of obesity and tailors treatment to every individual’s specific needs. He is pursuing certification through the American Board of Obesity  Medicine.  He also is certified in Nutritional Guidance through the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Spector is extensively trained and published in chronic pain management. He can expertly prescribe alternatives to opioid medications including extremely effective supplement regimens available by prescription only.  He also addresses the overall effect chronic pain has on mental health.

Integrative Medicine  

Some types of hormone management are integrated into many psychiatric patients’ regimens. Additionally, supplements and other out of pocket integrative treatments are sometimes discussed as part of a patient’s regular therapy, due to the psychiatric consequences they carry.  However, in-depth functional medicine and hormone therapy is generally self-pay in nature.

Panic Disorder/Panic Attacks

Panic disorder/panic attacks typically have a more rapid onset and have what can be idsabling symptoms for a shorter period of time. Panic attacks have been described by patients as coming on like a storm or for some, it's like a slow fog rolling in. Both are disabling and can even be accompanied by physical manifestations like shaking, sweating, falling down. To an outside observer, panic attacks can appear to be seizure or heart attack-like events. This illness is easily managed and understood by our targeted approaches.

Older Adult Psychiatric Services

Dr. Spector works with older adults to help them navigate depression, anxiety and cognitive decline that is more prevalent in this age group. He includes family members who often are caregivers or hold responsibility for an individual’s medical care and/or decision-making. This type of “team approach” gives the doctor more accurate and complete information and aids in accurate medication decision-making, which is so important in this side effect sensitive population.

Depression

Depression occurs when you suffer with sadness, irritability and other symptoms that make you feel like you want to "shut down." These symptoms interfere with your ability to function on a day-to-day basis. This "sadness" is manageable. Therapy alone will not successfully treat depression. In cases of clinical depression, therapy can be optimized with the addition of medication(s) to battle your depression.

Bipolar Illness

Bipolar illness requires specialized ongoing education as new treatments emerge and Dr. Spector has pursued ongoing in-depth education with an understanding that the treatment of Bipolar Illness is evolving and changing rapidly. The causes, the long-term effects and implications of misdiagnosed and mistreated Bipolar Illness can have a lasting negative effect on the lifetime of the (most commonly) young adults it strikes.  The importance of managing Bipolar Illness properly is an emerging sub-specialty of psychiatry that Dr. Spector continues to pursue with deep understanding and commitment.

Anxiety

Anxiety can occur on its own or as a cause or effect of clinical depression. Anxiety is defined as constant and overwhelming anxiousness and fear that can make you avoid work, school, or social situations that can trigger or worsen symptoms. There are several effective ways to treat anxiety so that it doesn't interfere with your life.
